Environmental Mission Statement:

We promote the preservation and protection of the planet through sustainable business practices that conserve natural resources and reduce our environmental impact toward building strong community relationships to create a cleaner and safer environment for future generations.

We achieve this mission in the following ways:

  • Conserving natural resources by reducing, reusing and recycling materials and energy
  • Complying with environmental regulations related to our business operations
  • Implementing the best management practices that support environmental sustainability
  • Promoting a better environment through relationships with our customers and the community
  • Encouraging environmental awareness throughout the organization
  • Engaging employees to actively participate in our mission for environmental sustainability

Project Oxygen

Project Oxygen is a joint project with TreeUtah and Salt Lake County to help plant more trees in Salt Lake County. It Started on January 1, 2013. For the past several years we have planted one tree for every new or pre-owned vehicle we sell. Twice a year we have planting events at locations in Salt Lake County in which we plant over 2,000 trees per event. All employees, customers and vendors are always invited to this great event. To date we have planted more than 14,000 Trees!

About The Program

Subaru of America, Inc. takes great pride in not only selling high-quality cars, but also protecting the environment. The Subaru Eco-Friendly Dealer Program reduces Subaru dealers' carbon footprint in the daily business world. The program is specifically designed with Subaru dealerships and customers in mind.
We are proud to announce that our dealership has achieved Subaru Eco-Friendly Dealer status by meeting requirements in the five key areas: energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling, waste management and community involvement. Trying to set the example as a whole.

 Water Recycling Carwash-
Our carwash uses an innovative recycling system where water is collected and reused in the next cycle.  About 75% of the water used in the carwash during each cycle is reclaimed for use in the next carwash cycle.  This provides an optimal balance of wash quality and conservation, saving about 75 gallons per wash.

Carpet: Ethos carpet by Tandus uses backing that contains 76% post-consumer recycled content from non-chlorinated thermoplastic polymers recovered from car windshields and safety glass, a product that has historically had no commercial applications after its useful life until Tandus began recycling.

 Low VOC Paint and Sealants-

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are chemicals that evaporate easily at room temperature.  There are thousands of different VOCs produced and use din our daily lives, which can affect both the environment and human health.  We have made a concerted effort to reduce that amount of VOCs in our building by using low-emitting materials and adhesives and by using low VOC paint throughout the facility
 AutoStone Tile-

Used extensively throughout the facility (Service Drive, Service Bays, New Subaru Delivery, Service Write-Up Offices), AutoStone is a high-recycled content flooring material.  The tiles incorporate 50% pre-consumer and 10% post-consumer waste.  In addition, AutoStone Floor Systems are manufactured using a "closed cycle" production process.  This sophisticated , anti-pollution manufacturing method recycles and recovers 100% of all components, with virtually zero emissions and dispersal.
 Recycled ACM Panels-

Aluminum Composite Material (ACM) panels - made with 85% recycled aluminum - are used for the exterior cladding of the building.  Incorporating recycled content materials in this way reduces impacts resulting from extraction and processing of virgin materials.  Furthermore, the materials used in the aluminum composite panels can be reused once they have reached the end of their lifecycle.  Aluminum composite panels may also be helpful, in lowering internal building temperatures (reducing AC loads in warm climates) and also potentially decreasing "urban heat island" effects, which can be detrimental to natural habitats.

Toilets: Each toilet is equipped witha dual flush valve.  Pushing the handle up initiates a reduced flush for liquid waste, while pushing the handle down actuates a full flush.  The dual flush system is expected to save an average of 60 gallons per day of clean fresh water.

Daylight Harvesting:The concept of daylight harvesting is simple.  Digital photosensors detect daylight levels and automatically adjust the output of electric lighting.  Day lighting not only saves energy, but also increases the quality of the visual environment.  Studies indicate that daylight harvesting can reduce electric lighting by as much as 84%.  Daylight is better for health of building occupants and is an efficient way to use energy directly from the sun.  At Mark Miller Subaru, we have used daylight harvesting throughout the building to reduce operating costs and improve our customers' experience while at our facility.
 High Speed Overhead Doors-

High-Speed overhead coiling doors save energy by minimizing thermal loss in climate-controlled areas.  Less time spent opening and closing doors meaning less conditioned air escaping our facility.  High-Speed doors also reduce the amount of dust and dirt entering the facility, creating a cleaner, healthier work environment.  Glazed panels in the doors let in natural light, reducing the need for artificial light and improving the daily work environment for our employees.
Cool Roof:The Firestone white roof membrane or "cool roof" reflects more of the sun's energy back into the atmosphere  reducing the need for airconditioning within the building.  Keeping the roof cooler also extends the life of the roof, meaning less materials consumption in the long run.
Wall Covering:As beautiful as it is practical, our wall coverings contain 44% post-industrial recycled content.  Our fabric is GREENGUARD certified and is made of 56% solution-dyed fiber.
Dyson Airblade Hand Dryers:The Dyson Airblade uses up to 80% less energy than other hand dryers.  Its infrared sensor ensures that the dryer doesn't continue to run after the user has walked away.  The built-in HEPA filter helps to clean the indoor air and reduce air born bacteria, making Mark Miller Subaru a healthier place to be.
Water-FREE Urinal:Water conservation is key to the sustainability of a project.  Installing water-free urinals, along witht he other conservation products in the restrooms, ensures meaningful water savings.  Sloan Waterfree Urinals reduce water and sewer costs, maintenance and repair bills, and create more hygienic, oder-free restrooms.  Their patented sealed cartridge uses a biodegradable liquid that eliminates the need for water, typically conserving 40,000 gallons per unit per year.
